Cusco is the main tourist starting point. The city has a lot to offer in terms of history, architecture and gastronomy.
It also represents the starting point for multiple day trips to various Inca sites or landmarks or longer journeys to Machu Picchu or Salkantay. Situated at an altitude of 3,400m it's highly recommended to spend a few days for acclimatization before going higher.

Rainbow Mountain accessible from both left and right. The most used path is the one from the right.
The same path splits and one of them heads towards the Red Valley. Only a few companies include it in the itinerary, presumably because tourists are not yet acclimatized with the altitude and it can be exhausting.
If you feel in good shape it's well worth going back that way.
