Tana Toraja is an area of Sulawesi island, home to an indigenous group known as the Torajans. For them life revolves around death which is the largest celebration, surpassing weddings. Most are Christians, some Muslim and a minority still retain the local beliefs but all follow the ancient traditions of funerals which are considered to be the most complex in the world.

Bamboo is also used for cooking. In this particular case intestines and meat were pushed inside and the bamboo stick will be put in fire. It will not burn but the inner part will become hot, cooking the food.
